American Pale Ale (APA)

To start, let's learn a bit more about APAs and their defining characteristics:


American Pale Ale (APA): APAs have become a very successful beer style around the world, and thus can vary considerably, depending on where they are brewed. In general, most APAs will give you a nice malt/hop balance. However, American versions of the APA will tend to have more emphasis on hops and less on malt. British versions of this style are exactly the opposite, with a richer malt profile that is a bit more balanced overall. Typical ABV for an APA is 4-7%. Examples: Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, Three Floyds Alpha King, Samuel Adam's Boston Ale, Three Floyds Pride & Joy (review forthcoming), Stone Pale Ale, Bell's Pale Ale, etc.
